Antagonist vs Raiders
on: September 29, 2017, 07:43:02 AM
So I like playing pve but in order to make weapons i have to play pvp. I hate playing pvp 1v4, means I have to play like a scumbag, being a sniper doesn't help, being a run n gun shot gunner doesnt help so my only viable option is using Hans and just jetpack strafe shooting people and having the explosion rounds kill players and i punch to execute. Sounds like a plan but now they just clump together and punch me while one is trying to grapple. Now everytime i respawn its 3v1 2 punching another grapple and it's just a shit show. Why couldn't this be 2v4? 2 Antagonist 4 Raiders, or have a way for Atagonist to defend themselves from multiple opponents?  And then at the end of the day you don't get squat for getting your ass beat. Who would want to queue up for this again?

Yeah I think it would be a great idea too. To add another raider, on a another similar post I had mentioned the same thing.

I agree, just tried antagonist and is rage inducing, broken as all get out. No fun at all.

Frankly, I can't agree. I happen to love playing as an Antagonist, specifically because it allows me to be a sneaky bastard.  I feel like the problem you're facing is more of a moral one than a problem with the game itself. Since you're at a disadvtange as far as intelligent assisticance, you need to use cheap tactics as an Antagonist. It makes how the mode works. You need to capitalize on when the Raiders turn their backs and swoop in to finish them off when the AI soldiers overwhelm them. If the Raiders clump up, they can't complete their objective effectively, so use that to your advantage to buy you time to pick them off. Wait around corners to grapple them, snipe them from a tiny lip in the sky, grapple them while they're busy killing the AI. It's intended for you to be the sneakiest of bastards. You are playing the bad guy, after all.

Ok that last post its just plain BULLSHIT you are either hacked or boosting cause I've seen hi ranked antagonist get torn apart by noobies all they do is gang bang him that's why I agree with the first post I've been trying and at the end its useless like I said before you go through HELL and at the end you get nothing either antagonist or raider they need to fix this and a 2v4 sound so much fun

Hello all,

First of all, please keep it civil guys. This is actually a great topic to discuss.
The 4 vs 1 gameplay is in the game's core. Wizard hits the nail when he says that you have to play the sneaky bastard part when you run as the Antagonist. Let's face it: facing the enemy honourably, face to face, won't take you far! You have to plan your ambushes and prey over incautious Raiders when the opportunity arises. And expect to die a lot -that's the way it is, and that's why you have unlimited respawns.

Also, consider the mission objectives. Maybe you can win without having to kill all the Raiders -by delaying them when there's a countdown or by killing the VIP they are escorting, maybe? Play it smart, and get in the spirit of the Antagonist, and it's a really rewarding experience.

I don't mind the above, but when you play as an Antagonist, after WAITING for what seems like fifteen minutes to half an hour, and then...when you are the Antagonist, and don't win? YOU GET NOTHING. ZIP. ZERO. NADA. All that work, all those attempts...and having the game mock you for doing poorly is frustrating(if you're like me, you already suck at PVP, so adding this Demon scolding the player does not help. ONE. BIT).

The Antagonist system needs ALOT of work...namely, REWARDS. Even with the teammates, splitting up gold, points, or *maybe* getting a Blueprint for a new weapon that you can't craft because you have NO RANK as an Antagonist?

Yay. Fun. :|

This Dev team has something special. I wouldn't have bought the Founder's Pack if I didn't believe in their passion, and truly enjoy the style and story of this game.

Keep working, MercurySteam. We are here, but listen to what we are saying, and experiencing. We believe this game can be STUPID FUN. You can do IT!

I do have to agree that playing the antagonist isn't nearly as rewarding in terms of currency, and it would be nice if we could make at least a small, immediate profit, instead of having to wait a week for our rank to update. Something like 500-1000 gold, maybe. Not as much as playing a raider, but enough to make it worth your time.

my idea for antagonist, small reward for finishing the game (lets say 500 points of your choise);
bonus reward for performance and enemy skill-level, lets say you can double reward if you lose but perform well;
higher bonus reward for winning, lets say you can triple initial reward, BUT this reward hardly affected by enemy skill-level, so you don't just make easy cash on noobs.

You can adjust and tweak exact numbers, you get the idea.

If the sneaky bastard approach is the intended way to play then why make it to where 1/4 of your character roster is excluded from the game mode automatically. Wardogs can be seen from anywhere on the map at all times which makes them poor antagonist. Let's be real, no matter how you play you will NEVER beat a 1v2 battle. They stick together you die, you try to destroy their objective, you will die if they look for you. This is assuming they stick together in the first place.

Well, the idea that you always can change approach, sometimes you not necessary have to kill raiders, but harass them, so they don't feel comfortable while working towards their objective (I'm not saying it works perfectly, but it works fine for me so far). But I agree with you that in this regards wardogs have a huge disadvantage since they can't change their approach.

Also playing antagonist more skill based mode than raiders (where it's more team-based). By skill I'm not necessary mean aiming and shooting, but more decision-making, when and how to approach and when disengage, more "tactical" stuff. But if you face team with same level of "skill" then you more likely screwed (unless both you and enemy team are really low level, which make it somewhat random).

I understand what you mean. However, harassing does not mean victory since you still have to either kill them or stop their mission, which usually requires killing them anyway. Even when harassing I find it difficult to do that with lycus or Alicia considering their range of effectiveness. If they are always near each other, any real strategy bears no results since you are one person. If they introduce more missions where you can more actively disrupt the objective, that will make the mode more diverse and less heart-wrenching.
