You would think the official forums would be the place to go to get the straight dope, but nope. Is pretty common to come here with a question about mechanics and get an answer to the effect of "the devs already answered this on the discord". I don't know about the discord favoring antags but it does seem like MSE is more active in providing detailed info there.

Bug report & Technical Support / Re: cqc worse than ever

Seriously though cqc is not a s reliable as it needs to be. I'm okay with it being a one hit kill rock paper scissors deal. But it needs to actually function as such consistently.

This is a problem that needs to be acknowledged. It's not just latency. I've seen people roll out of grapples tons of times. That's not even touching on the terrible auto target acquisition that make me punch everyone but the downed elite I'm facing.

Tldr:
Encouraging mic use fixes a lot of balancing issues, fixes the lack of conveyance helping with retention, it speeds up matches, raises the skill ceiling and is overall more engaging. I think that's worth the 10% chance that you may have to mute a fool every once in a while.

My belief is that boneheaded players that ruin matches aren't bad players they just don't know any better. Also, when I say on by default I don't mean always on. You could still turn it off and leave it off. Or mute specific players if they are being annoying.

Most if not all prominent multiplayer games now default to on. I just think that it's kind of dumb to have a game that requires coordination where no one is actually coordinating with each other. If the concern is that people will be toxic or whatever, I haven't found that to be very common. I've been in party chat with about 30 or so players I've met in game and out of all of them only one was a problem.

The fact is that if it defaults to off people are 90% likely to leave it off and that's how you get baby Hareks. Not being able to communicate is not only fostering bad habits, it's cutting out any high level strategic play. Which I would argue is the entire draw of completing objectives as a group.

Of course this game is going to feel imbalanced.  Instead of having two teams competing against each other you have one team competing against a random assortment of individuals. I see so many people complain about antags being OP without realizing that there are other ways to fight than "let's all just run at them and attack". Without mics how are you going to coordinate a strategy that actually accounts for the opponents strengths and weaknesses? How are you going to bait the antag into an ambush or funnel overwhelming opposition into a bottleneck or prioritize specific targets? More importantly how do you get the damn Lycus to stop blowing up the extractors and snaking the elites when he has a full stack?

Or let's just look at the most important aspect of a game; fun. When I play a match and I cannot communicate with my team I walk out pissed 8 out of 10 times. When on mic I normally play for 6 hours straight.

wow I liked the antag system until you all mentioned the broken builds and even people trying to be friendly to the raiders which kinda defeats the whole purpose of being an antag, you know though, the whole antag system breaks the whole immersion if you think about it.

I really enjoy playing Ally antag. I would hate to see the devs patch out what I do as if it were a bug.

We need to rally around a consensus set of demands to make it easy on the devs to make it right. Here's my proposal based on what I want and the complaints  seeing from the community.

1. Separate PVP and PVE queues
2. Difficulty selection
3. Cut scene skip based on majority votes
4. Better lobby/team controls:
Pass party leader
Vote to kick
Host selection
Party chat in lobby
5. Voice chat on by default.

Is this acceptable?

More than one local on a team is usually a bad call. More than one sniper is too much of a gamble. They're just too squishy to be relied upon when shit gets real.

Yeah on upside down you can't place it as antag. It's moreso a tactic to keep it away from the spider. The raiders can only pick it up from the terminal when it is burnt out. So if it is still in progress when the spider comes; they cannot take it away, whereas the antag can. But yeah I'll admit it could use some more testing.

As for the mines, last I checked antags can destroy the mines but not the miners. That may have been changed with a patch though. It's been a while since I've played.

If only, ppl still attack even at higher levels. But yeah, there are surprisingly very few stages where an antag cannot meaningfully assist. I'mma just gush about my findings if anyone wants to speedrun some stages.

Short fused:
You can carry and set off the bombs on the first phase. For the second phase you can destroy the extractors when needed and provide aleph.

White noise:
You can destroy mines to minimize danger. You can pick up and move the extractors to more convenient positions without worrying about hazards.

Low blow:
You can destroy gates and destroy shielded turrets. For turrets without shields you can mount it to prevent ads from using them.

Beast lair:
You can drop the bridges to allow the raiders to get around more quickly.

Fistful of sand:
Provide aleph at the furthest prisoners on the first phase. Destroy or occupy the turrets on the second phase.

Double agent:
Shoot the exploding flowers to damage the mech and ads. Accumulate 1 aleph and get shot to death next to the mech.

In shock:
Accumulate 1 aleph and then get shot to death next to kuzman.

In medias res:
Mount turrets to disable them while keeping them operational for use against the beholder and squid. Carry the decoder. Carry Schneider to the end. Note that a raider needs to enter the extraction point once the boy is placed.

Mind over matter:
Destroy mines.

Upside down:
This one still needs more testing to confirm my theory. The antag can grab kuzman's head at any point unlike the raiders who can only grab it at certain times. I propose that if the antag and raiders coordinate properly they can keep it away from the spider long enough to win in as little as 2 cycles.

Because of the nature of 4v1 antags literally cannot compete on equal footing. The rewards for antagging are only worthwhile if you absolutely dominate. You are incentivised to use exploits and dirty tricks in most situations. That's why people say that it is an invitation to trolling.

There are tons of games in which players compete against each other and no one says that the opponent is there just to ruin thier fun and waste thier time. The fact that this is a common impression of this game goes to show that there are foundational flaws here.

My guess is that most asymmetrical competitive games give the enemy player a different skill set and playstyle. But even those games tanked.

May I add a category? Ally: not just passive but assisting in completing the objective as quickly and efficiently as possible. This is my favorite but it only works when you are on mic with the raiders. Randos cannot comprehend an antag assisting even when it's extremely obvious.

For example; on low blow if you notice the antag is disabling the turrets and the final gate, don't attack. You're just slowing down your own success and being an ass for no good reason.

D. No antagonist, I would say A but that just makes the enemies too easy unless they have super low mmr. Most of the antags i face are toxic pieces of shit that abuse broken game mechanics. Excuse the language but they really piss me off.

Like push weapons and the konstantin's sphere on white noise and no res. Sigh

A victory with a high MMR gives less reward and more time to complete. At a low 8+ points, 10 minutes and 2500 gold, at a high 6-7 points, 15-25 minutes 2000-2500 gold. There is no incentive.
The traditional difficulty system looks better or you need to increase rewards.

I fully agree. In gaming reward should scale with investment. Somehow that's flipped upside down here. If I'm spending more time, working harder and am more frustrated by the end of it; I expect  an outcome that I can at least be satisfied with. But here it's just time wasted.

Like I've said in many a post and it continues to go ignored by the devs: too many of the mechanics in this game demonstrate a disrespectful disregard of the players' time. I haven't played this game in over two weeks, I have $40 in my psn wallet that was intended to be spent on Mercury points, but with the reaction I've been seeing from these latest updates I'd just as soon uninstalling. I don't see any indication that things are going to improve.

Right. I've been saying forever; make voice chat start on as default.  Nearly all modern online coop games these days defaults to voice chat on. They either don't know that's the case or know and are deliberately going against the grain.

If I could talk to new players I could coach them through and we'd all have a better time. Like "hey buddy, destroying the extractor is not how to win right now" on short fused. Or "FYI, herek is very vulnerable, but you can stalk to the ceiling to avoid danger."

This game requires coordination but instead everybody just runs around on thier own trying to guess what they should be doing. The biggest games today default to voice chat and nobody has complained about it. But people are constantly complaining that this game is too challenging. Whatever reason you have for continuing to do things this way, is simply not worth the mounds of turned off new prospects.

In my experience it is indeed poor conveyance that leads to most complaints. Like for the first few months I was pissed that the elites could spam invincibility endlessly. I didn't know it was limited to the number of charges they had till someone told me.

I now know it was on the loading screen, I just wasnt paying attention. I look forward to the new tutorials.

Indeed. My favorite is wait for them to climb or vault something and grapple them while they are in the animation. Works non sparking brutes every time.
