Ship's Log / Doldren Leaves His Bloody Mark on the Broken Planet
 on: February 15, 2018, 05:57:00 PM

A new playable character joins Raiders of the Broken Planet; the deranged assassin Doldren. This heartless killer can now be recruited by all players.

Doldren is a native to the Broken Planet but, unlike Harec or Iune who reluctantly abandoned their people’s peaceful ways to take arms against the Terran invasion, Doldren is considered an irredeemable monster among the culture that gave him birth.

His insatiable thirst for blood saw him jailed in the Pit of Repudiation, where he was to end his days in total seclusion, but when the invading humans assaulted the ancient gaol, Doldren was set free by his desperate captors as a final act of vengeance upon the Terrans.

For Doldren, the invasion of the Broken Planet is a blessing, as he can now put his talents for murder to use without fear of reprisal. Having heard of his dark reputation, Harec accepted him into the Raiders, acknowledging his usefulness as a peerless warrior, but the taciturn leader of the Raiders understands full well that Doldren might as well slit his teammates’ throats the moment he has no other victims within reach.

Doldren’s talents reside in his ability to ambush enemy forces, projecting his essence and rematerializing his body near unsuspecting foes, making short work of them with high-caliber revolvers or dealing the killing blow with his own hands. Check the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1D_bvK7pGAM

Lets us know what you think of Doldren and share your tactics with the Raiders of the Broken Planet community on Twitter and Facebook!

See you on the Broken Planet! ;)

Ship's Log / Raiders Report 019: Blue Stories
 on: February 09, 2018, 06:34:38 PM

One of the first names on Harec’s list of possible recruits for his Raiders was Alicia. A former Umbra Wardog mercenary who should have been broken by her past, but whose inner strength made her fight back with teeth and nails (and shotguns).

Alicia’s mercenary outfit joined the Umbra Wardogs shortly after their arrival to the Broken Planet. Her comrades admired and trusted General Marmalade, the Wardogs’ leader, but something in Alicia’s gut instinct made her wary of the General’s plans of enhancing his fighting force thanks to his experimentation with Aleph Plasma. Alicia’s suspicions proved right when her former team turned on her and she barely escaped with her life. Now Alicia seeks to avenge herself and her dead friends and put an end to Marmalade’s megalomaniac dreams as part of the Raiders.

10 New Character Cards

Alicia’s all new Character Cards are tailored with team play and survivability in mind, gaining extra advantage by giving close support to other Raiders and retaliating after being harmed.

-   Elation: Alicia’s double-jump flotation lasts longer if she has another Raider nearby.

-   Support: Alicia reloads faster when she is near another team member.

-   Arrogance: Alicia strikes harder and delivers more damage if she is close to another Raider.

-   Escape: Double-jump flotation lasts longer if Alicia has just being hit.

-   Elusive: Alicia recovers health if she double-jumps right after being hit.

From Wardog to Raider

Contrary to Harec, Alicia underwent several changes during Raiders of the Broken Planet’s early concept stages. A more savage, primal version of her was later polished and styled into the blue-haired, bitter yet inspiringly strong and fun woman we know today.

One of the most popular skins in Raiders of the Broken Planet is Alicia’s Umbra Wardog. During her early days on the Broken Planet, Alicia wore her signature yellow leather jacket, being instantly recognizable on the battlefield -their enemies often taking that as a clue to run away the opposite direction! You can get Alicia’s Umbra Wardogs skin 40% off until Sunday, February 11!

Alicia excels as a close support, fast moving character. Her outstanding agility and speed marks her as the ideal choice for capturing objectives and hunt down enemy elites and Antagonists. To that end, Alicia’s weapons of choice are close ranged but powerful shotguns able to shred enemies with ease in close quarters, finishing any unlucky survivors with a melee follow-up.

Alicia’s new weapon, the Novera CC1-1212 Modified, is now available to unlock for all Raiders of the Broken Planet players. You can obtain its blueprint in the Short Fuse mission.

The Novera CC1-1212 Modified is a customization Alicia applied to her old Novera shotgun, expanding the drum magazine size to accommodate a new ammo type developed by Konstantin. Alicia took also great care on embellishing the weapon, adding new motifs to the barrel and a grinning skull carved into the magazine.

If you haven’t tried playing with Alicia, you are missing a lot of fun! The perfect way to get started with her is watching the great #DevShout video focussing on the best strategies, weapons and loadouts to use.

Do you have any cunning tactics for Alicia you’d like to share with the rest of the Raiders of the Broken Planet community? Check out our Facebook, Twitter and make yourself known!

See you on the Broken Planet, Raiders!

Ship's Log / Raiders Report 018: Pale Raider
 on: February 02, 2018, 06:20:33 PM
Harec. the Pale Rider. The Red Death. He is the undisputed leader of the Raiders (Lycus might question his command from time to time, but mostly to bust his balls). For years, Harec guided his nomad clan peacefully, but the Human invasion put an end to that. A Hades Division death squad assaulted his caravan and massacred his people, leaving Harec badly wounded. He managed to crawl inside a nearby temple to bleed out alone in the dark, but an ancient power contained within healed his wounds and awoke a power within Harec; a Power he would use to avenge his murdered kin and eradicate the Human scum from the surface of the Broken Planet.

The latest #DevShout video explores Harec’s role on the battlefield, and offers great advice about how to get the most out of this deadliest of snipers. Carlos Fraguas, Gameplay Programmer at MercurySteam has all the answers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr7EPWm_aJA&t=46s

10 New Character Cards

Today we are also releasing 10 new Character Cards for Harec, 5 normal Cards and their rare counterparts, to make sure you find the customizable option that suits best your gaming style!

-   Favor

When you kill an enemy with an overcharged shot, you earn several seconds of invulnerability.

-   Habituation

You recover Stalking time by killing enemies while being in that state.

-   Revenge

Your weapon causes more damage after returning from the Stalking state.

-   Swift

Allows a faster reload while being in the Stalking state.

-   Reprisal

Your weapon causes more damage for several seconds during the Stalking.

The Evolution of Harec

Harec was among the first Raiders to be designed during the pre-production of the game. As you can see in these early concepts, the Concept Art team had a clear idea of how they wanted the Raiders’ leader to look from the very beginning, having changed very little from initial sketches to the final rendering.

The team experimented with different iterations of Harec’s gear. Several ideas were finally discarded, while others made it into different alternative skins for the character, like the Red Death or the Headhunter outfits.

Harec’s role on the battlefield was always that of the sniper. His weapons needed to be instantly recognised as long rifles, that Harec modified to interact with his powers, imbuing each bullet with Aleph for a more devastating shot.

Have any tips or strategies of your own for Harec? Make sure to visit our Facebook, Twitter and Raiders of the Broken Planet official forum and share them with the community!

See you on the Broken Planet, Raiders!

Ship's Log / New free Mission of the Week!
 on: January 24, 2018, 06:27:05 PM

Raiders of the Broken Planet is a campaign-based indie game with Triple-A production values that includes a starter campaign that players are be able to play for free and, if they like the game enough, invest 9.99€/$ in one of its premium campaigns.

Having a substantial part of Raiders of the Broken Planet offered for free, the game is labelled “Free to Play” in First Party game stores, and that has led to some confusion and discomfort among players who expected to find the usual F2P formula within.

For the game to progress, we need to satisfy that perception in a way that brings more players in and improves the game to be a better experience for all users.

We started by adding the possibility to play with all the game’s characters and interact with the progression and economy systems in the Eternal Soldier free starter campaign. Then we introduced the Invitation system and the Mission Unlocking for Gold. Now, we take a step further with the Mission of the Week.

From now on, all players will have access to one premium mission every week. This mission will rotate each week. This way, players who don’t own the premium campaigns will be able to play through the missions more easily, in addition to the current Mission Unlocking for Gold and the Invitation system.

This will help bring in more players and open new possibilities to veterans:

•   As it has always been, only premium campaign owners can be awarded invitations. This is a key feature that eases progression and helps unlock new characters.

•   Veterans will now have easier access to non-premium users who play the game and are hoping to be invited to other missions. These people will be easier to find; they will gather in the current Mission of the Week.

•   Whatever map is currently chosen as Mission of the Week will have more players on it. This will lead to faster matchmaking times if you include that mission in your queue list.

We’ll announce what new Mission of the Week is available every Monday in all our Social Media channels. This is just the first of the many major changes we are implementing in Raiders of the Broken Planet based in the players’ feedback. We hope you enjoy them!

See you at the Broken Planet!

Ship's Log / 80 new Faction Cards are now available!
 on: January 23, 2018, 06:16:50 PM

As the war for control of the Broken Planet intensifies, all four factions have been honing their martial skills and improving their strategies, and now they are deadlier than ever!

Today, MercurySteam has released a new Faction Cards pack, including 10 cards for each Faction plus their Rare counterparts. Now all Raiders of the Broken Planet players can customize their characters to suit any gaming style, either playing as Raiders or as Antagonists.

Each Faction Card is designed to subtly enhance the character’s performance during the game, while keeping the essence and character of the race it represents in mind. This way, the vengeful Locals will receive Cards like “Merciless”, that increases their weapons’ damage output after a kill (something Doldren will surely enjoy!), while the cold and calculating Fifth Council characters, like Konstantin and Ginebra, can deploy Cards such as “Firewall”, reducing the damage received when they have maximum health.

The Hades Division mercenaries, including Lycus and Mikah, also get their share of new Cards, like “Nerves of Steel” that allows them to reload faster after being hit, while the savage Umbra Wardogs can find “Kamikaze” among their Cards -increasing the damage of their first strike after performing a jump.

The new Faction Cards Pack for Raiders of the Broken Planet is now available for all players. Let us know your favourite character configurations and share them with the community on Twitter, Facebook and in the Raiders of the Broken Planet’s official forum.

See you on the Broken Planet!

Ship's Log / Raiders Report 016: Spoiler Alert!
 on: January 19, 2018, 07:40:38 PM

Earlier this week we shared with you the Patch 07 Designers’ Notes that will include the rebalancing of some characters and missions. We expected V07 to go live today, but the submission process took a bit longer than expected and it will finally go out early next week. To make the wait more bearable, we’d like to share with you a sneak peek of what awaits us when the Hades Betrayal campaign arrives! (We’ll announce the release date in due time, no worries).

As you might have guessed, the third campaign will see the Raiders go head to head against the fearsome Hades Division, an elite mercenary outfit that previously counted Lycus, Hans and Mikah among their ranks. If Harec’s team is going to have any chance of defeating Krausher’s Hades Division, it will be by convincing her most trusted lieutenant, Ayana Kwena, to betray him.

But the Hades Division won’t be the only bad guys around! The Umbra Wardogs have a long-standing enmity with the Hades Division, stretching way back from the days before the Broken Planet’s invasion.

The Hades Betrayal campaign will feature an incredible level of visual variety, and our concept and environment artists have outdone themselves creating really moody, evocative landscapes never seen before on the Broken Planet.

As usual, our concept artists put an incredible attention to detail when designing the Raiders’ weapons, making them look exotic and futuristic while retaining a sense of functionality and authenticity. Which Raider will be using of this pistol?

And of course we have the missions themselves. Our designers are putting the finishing touches to the most hard-fought and dangerous battles to date! Will the Raiders be able to defeat the best equipped fighting force in the galaxy?

Lastly, as was the case with the previous campaigns, we’ll meet new Raiders who will join the team in their guerrilla war against the human invaders, each with their unique fighting style and special abilities. Now, who is this guy exactly?

That’s all for now. If you enjoyed this Spoiler Alert Special, let us know on Twitter and Facebook and we might come back with a sequel soon!

See you on the Broken Planet, Raiders.

Ship's Log / Patch 07 Designers’ Notes
 on: January 17, 2018, 02:29:03 PM

This update is focused on rebalancing some missions and characters to accommodate the new content we have released since the Wardog Fury campaign launched - Including new characters, weapons and Cards. Ship's Log / Ginebra Slave Unit Skin Now Available!
 on: January 16, 2018, 06:29:40 PM
In his maddened quest for total efficiency as the Fifth Council’s most infamous Geneticist, Dr. Pavel Kuzmann designed the vile Slave Unit Program. Using reanimated cadavers, DR. Kuzmann cloned the minds of the best Fifth Council Hunter Units.

These Slave Units could be controlled remotely by their originals, called Alpha Units, thus expanding their area of operations and reducing risks. Given Ginebra’s exceptional performance, the Fifth Council granted her control over several of such units.

Slave Units are extremely difficult to operate, requiring all the Alpha’s concentration to remotely handle one of them. However, there are rumours suggesting that five Ginebra units were sighted at the Battle of Vagos.

The new Ginebra Slave Unit skin is now available in Raiders of the Broken Planet!

During his years as Licaone Impure, the motorcycle gang he joined long time ago, Lycus suffered a lot of stress. The very idea of killing people from his motorcycle gave him goosebumps, but he barely hit a simple thing from the distance.

That’s why he modified "Dolores", replacing its three barrels with just one with an internal valve-based closing mechanism. This way, the barrel closes with each reload and opens with each shot. As a result, the first shot from the clip barely spreads, which makes possible to hit a target at a certain distance and, of course, make Lycus happy in the process.

Also, Lycus' Space Biker skin makes the perfect match with this new Pepper Pot gun. That's why we have decided to offer it with a discount for a limited time. You can get this skin with a 40% off until Sunday, January 14.

Thank you and see you on the Broken Planet!

Ship's Log / Patch 06 Notes – Wardog Fury Update
 on: November 27, 2017, 05:50:29 PM
Wardog Fury, Raiders of the Broken Planet’s second campaign, launches on November 30, introducing new missions, characters and weapons to the game.

These new elements, and the information gathered during the two months since Raiders of the Broken Planet launched, influenced further changes in the game. In this Patch 06 notes we’ll take you through the most ambitious update for Raiders of the Broken Planet to date.

Missions:

Overall, we are happy with the way the different missions play, requiring different strategies and characters for the best results. We have introduced several tweaks to difficulty settings in some of them to adjust win-rates, slightly reducing the bonus enemy spawn rate during the survival phases, for example.

When using invitations, it’s easier now to understand if the level is playable or not thanks to a new tooltip that displays the availability for every user. Mission-specific changes are:

Hanging by a Thread

•   Increased Lycus' crane health in Solo mode.

•   Reduced the enemies spawn rate during the mission’s first and second phases when playing against an Antagonist.

•   Reduced the Wardog gunships' health points.

In Shock:

•   Increased Shae's resistance to electrocution in Solo mode.

•   Increased the enemies’ spawn rate during the first phase.

•   Increased Dr. Kuzmann's weapon damage.

The Enemy Within:

•   Decreased the enemies’ spawn rate during the final phase when not playing against an Antagonist.

This patch marks our first pass at character and weapon balancing. Some characters were outperforming others clearly. Specifically, Konstantin, Hans and Ginebra. We've focused on balancing their weapons, while keeping their respective powers intact to preserve their uniqueness.

•   Slightly decreased resistance to shooter-type damage for main characters of the Fifth Council.

•   Slightly increased regeneration speed for main characters of the Umbra Wardogs.

Harec

•   Increased Ignis Fugit's damage.

•   Increased Stalk's flying speed.

•   Increased Stalk's duration.

•   Decreased Stalk's target acquisition time.

Dr. Kuzmann

•   Decreased Licht Speer AA-1's damage.

•   Increased Light Horizons's damage.

Ginebra

•   Slightly slowed down the transformation from Cougar form into Ginebra.

•   Increased Sturzenegger Bogen C-A00's time between shots.
