Ship's Log / Re: Spacelords Update 11.1 Patch Notes
 on: October 18, 2018, 06:13:39 PM
So you're listening to the community complain, but you still don't understand the problems. Why are we still getting nothing for duplicate blueprints? Why are antagonists still allowed in Mentor matches? Why do raiders still score lower on average with an antagonist than without? On A Fistful of Sand what prevents the antag from simply killing the Protector? For the Tolchok, why doesn't a player get knockback immunity for 2s after it procs? (Nerfing its damage doesn't solve the problem.) You really buffed Patient?! (Was Doldren not OHKO'ing every character already?) ...

And yes I could keep going for a very long time.

While not all of the changes are bad, it appears as though MSE remains out of touch with the problems of the game. I mean on In Shock the issue is that Kuzman sits next to the switches so why not make him jump down farther away after activating them or allow him to aggro more easily? You have the data for the success rates after you changed this mission so you know that it had a dramatic effect when you made this (ninja) change.

I really enjoy Spacelords but it is starting to feel like a love-hate relationship. If you want the game to succeed, not just survive, then you need to make changes that let the player feel like they are being rewarded for playing even when they lose. You can add in-game achievements that reward small amounts of gold when you kill X, Y and Z enemies, successfully survive being downed, etc. Make these weekly/monthly so that only the most dedicated players ever reach the final goals.

In the end it has to be MSE that saves the game. And while the volume of changes is commendable, most of them seem inconsequential when major problems are still being ignored.

Yeah, In Shock went from being fun to being awful. It is all but impossible with randoms now since you are at their mercy when pulling switches. If Kuzman doesn't shock me, they certainly will.

But the characters like genebra cost way too much...
If you think about it like this, genebra is obtainable by level 36, but her cost is so high that you could be level 56, and still not have her.
I mean, unless you haven't bought a single weapon or character,  (including Shane) except maybe hans...

Just because you can drive at 16 doesn't mean you can afford a car. The prices give you something to grind towards, and encourage you to spend money on the game. It may seem like a lot but I'm not even level 100 and have all but 6 characters already.

Gameplay Feedback / Re: Level 500 antag

@Hiero- again, please answer when you would deem it acceptable to play antag. A lot of teams involve low level players. I've lost to a team of 4x players all below level 100, and I've beaten teams with much higher levels than mine. I've played enough to know that level is not skill, but you are implying it's unfair to fight people based on level alone. So, please, when would it be acceptable for a level 999 to fight?

1) I actually suggested hiding player level and instead only showing Tier # as a way to alleviate the large discrepancies in another thread.

2) I don't care if the antag is just level 200 or 9,999, they shouldn't be ganking level 3 and 8 players. There is no skill in that.

3) MMR (skill as you call it) can easily be manipulated. In my case the antag had an MMR in the mid 30's. Maybe this was correct but he seemed far more skilled than that value indicated.

They need to change it to lv 1-20 and it should also appear if it's anyone's first time on that mission.

So what I would like to see is keeping player level hidden and instead displaying the player's tier. This would avoid issues with an antag being level 500 as they would be the same tier as anyone level 100+. It would also prevent tier 1 antags from playing against tier 6 players unless the rest of the team was all tier 1. This would allow any player in tier 6 to qualify for a mentor match. It's a simple change but it has massive ramifications in regards to player perception.

Great another weapon nerfed... Like I said already this is not the weapon's fault, the problem is we don't get any stun/stagger resistance after the initial hit. This is why we get stun/pushed so easily by shotgun fifth council enemies or loath's cookie gun etc. Just give everyone 2-3 seconds of CC immunity each time you get hit by a crowd control effect no need to nerf these guns.

This^^^. Just give it the same UI as the silence debuff from The Enemy Within.

The gold costs for characters and rare blueprints are just, WAY TOO HIGH!!!
It'd be better to just cut the costs in half for everything. While being easier, and less time-consuming on the players, it would still allow players to invest time into getting characters.

Characters are mostly fine. There just needs to be a 150k character to bridge the gap from Ginebra to Doldren/Loaht.

The weapons are just all wrong since you need to pay based on forge level, not based on upgrade points gained.

Mentor requires a level 1-3 player. If the player is level 4, they will not flag the mentor bonus.

@LordDraco3

Of course it's not a dick move to want to play the game, but against a team with a level 3 and an 8? Don't pretend that is even remotely fair. And yes, it's dickish to dunk over an 8th grader and block all of their shots, which is exactly what he did to them repeatedly. If you don't see the problem in that then I don't know what to say, maybe you're just that kind of person.

@LordDraco3

I noted a similar example in another thread. Let me just quote myself: "I just ran into wwfdamorte who is level 492 in a mentor match. The problem was that he was the antag and we had a level 3, an 8, a 73 and an 81."

So if you play in the NBA, is it fair to go all out against other professional players? College athletes? High school athletes? At a charity event (with other pros)? Against grade school children?

Obviously you will draw the line somewhere because you realize that it's not about just you but about letting everyone who is playing enjoy the game.

In the end no matter how skilled me or the level 73 player were in that mentor match, it was not going to be a fun experience for the level 3 or 8 against an antag with that much experience. I don't think anyone is saying you can't have fun playing, but at some point you have to realize that you having fun can hurt the experience of others, particularly new players. It's not the antags fault, but that doesn't mean you should give 100% when you know that the other team isn't at your level. That's just dickish behavior.

I'm not doing bp mission right now (well, maybe a few of rare for Alicia since I don't have any extra bp) for this issue, is a little frustrating get 1k faction points and a duplicate XD

I'm still trying to get Painkiller to roll just once. So far I haven't even seen one as a possible reward yet. Also, I did fail a 94% rare blueprint yesterday so I'm definitely bitter about how blueprints are being handled.

So, once you get to a high level, you are no longer allowed to play the game, so says the community. How dare someone enjoy the experience

Cool. Got it.

So here's a question for you... is it fair for a level 500 antag to play against low level players?

I wonder how many times you used the "Git Gud" as one of your examples, you bring it up alot. Don't you think your a little over the top, I can picture you with a Megaphone at MS studios trying to get there attention lol. srry

There was a very long thread discussing optional antags and one of the forced antag supporters actually made the 'git gud' argument. So while it may seem overused, it is actually an argument made in defense of antags.

Sounds good but I'm not sure any cards would make me change from Spiral of Violence and Hooligan.
