Gameplay Feedback / Should there be more to the tutorial?
 on: August 01, 2017, 09:28:34 AM
Here's what I remember of the tutorial after running it during the second to last weekend or so:
  • Learning to run
  • Learning to jump
  • Learning about melee combat by fighting a grunt in close combat
  • Learning about stalking
  • Learning about being stealthy by having to kill two different grunts in the same room
  • A cutscene where Harec kills a whole elevator of Hades Division troopers before finding out that Lycus has been taken away already.
From personal experience, it took me at least a day to learn the exact workings of the melee combat triangle, despite doing this tutorial first. I've also noticed quite a few others having the same experience.
Sure, there seems to be other places to look up the triangle, such as here on the forums, but they're easy to overlook.

So, I'd like to propose at least one additional segment to the tutorial: Have a moment where you have to combat an elite soldier, maybe the charging kind. Make it so players trying to learn through the tutorial have to counter a grapple with a strike. Maybe the devs could even toss in a moment where the player has to use their acquired aleph charge on something to progress.

As hinted before, this is running off a shoddy memory, so I may have forgotten about fighting an elite in the tutorial or something. Criticize this post as much as you please, and feel free to add any other thoughts you have related to it.

In my attempts at writing a this thread, I haven't found an exact answer I would go by.

On one hand it would help raiders differentiate abilities they see a little easier, such as a situation I had recently where the antagonist Konstantin and the raider Konstantin had deployed their bubbles the same moment I was dealing with a different enemy. It could also add a bit of flavor to the antagonists, showing that they aren't exactly who they look like.

On the other hand, antagonists already seem to rely on confusion and subterfuge in their attempts to undermine the raiders. There's a chance this could give them another disadvantage to worry about, unless the ability was something like Alicia's or Lycus's, which are already pretty easy to distinguish as a friend's or foe's power. One could probably even make a point about the future raider Mikah, who's ability seems to be named Holo-Decoy.

With this in mind, I'd like to open this debate out to the community we have here. See what points each side will make and what the devs think of it all.

While I'm not certain if this is a glitch, there was a bit of an issue in the last match I was in where the final guardian was taken down to zero health, only to spend a minute or so circling about in it's death throes while wardogs and the antagonist continued to unload on us.
I only saw this during that one run of A Breath of Hope, so I'm willing to assume it wasn't supposed to happen. Anybody (besides my team) have the same issue at all?
