is there a possibility of a toggle in the main menu or settings to turn the cutscenes off completely. I played in the beta that took place over the weekend of the 20th of may. holding down the button to skip doesn't skip soon enough and to be brutally honest I'm not a fan of the script, sitting through the ones I did was once too many

I wondered about that, too. I mentioned the same thing in feedback earlier. It's going to get old seeing all those cut scenes and hearing story-related in-game banter over and over again.
If I had to guess, I'd say the delay in skipping scenes is a sort of buffer time while it's loading the level and/or the next cut scene.
